The aim of decorating the plane is to support the Thai Government's successful "Amazing Thailand" marketing campaign held in 1998 and 1999, the "Celebrate The Amazing River of Kings" project launched by the Tourism Authority of Thailand, and to promote Thailand throughout the world as a tourist destination. This livery can be seen from 30 September 1999 until the end of December 2000; the aircraft will be deployed on Thai's services to Paris, Stockholm, Rome, Sydney, Tokyo and Los Angeles. The airline's board of directors voted overwhelmingly to undertake the project after the idea was proposed by Thai's commercial department. The image of the royal barge was chosen because it is well known throughout the world for its unique beauty and intricate appearance. In addition, the painted aircraft has been royally bestowed by His Majesty the King as "Hariphunchai."
